SAR: Les délégués du personnel sonnent l’alerte et brandissent la menace d’une grève
The staff representatives of the African Refining Company (SAR) have spoken out against the recruitment policy implemented by management. After several months of fruitless negotiations, the workers' representatives accuse management of carrying out what they describe as "political and opportunistic" recruitment practices.
In a statement following a press conference, they denounced the increase in the number of directors from 7 to 14 and the increase in department heads from 15 to 27, resulting in a significant rise in the company's expenses. They also criticized the lack of technical and operational staff, which they attributed to a proliferation of administrative positions.
The delegates are asking the authorities to conduct an audit of recruitments to management positions over the past two years, in order to verify their compliance with procedures and their financial impact.
Recalling the crises experienced by SAR, particularly in 2006 and 2020, they call for preserving the gains achieved through the efforts of the staff and warn against any practice likely to weaken the company again.
Finally, the board announced the possibility of contacting the Labor Inspectorate and warned of the imminent filing of a strike notice. The workers' representatives stated their intention to defend both the interests of the staff and the long-term viability of SAR, which they presented as a strategic element of Senegal's energy sovereignty.
