Sécurisation pré-Gamou : la Police interpelle 50 personnes à Thiès et Tivaouane
As the 2026 Gamou approaches, the National Police are reinforcing their security measures in sensitive areas of Thiès and Tivaouane. A large-scale operation was conducted on the night of Friday, August 21st to Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, under the direction of the Regional Public Security Service.
The operation, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Safiétou MBAYE, mobilized personnel from various police stations, with support from elements of the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI) of Thiès and the research brigades.
A simultaneous operation in Thiès and Tivaouane
For seven hours, security forces raided several areas considered to be crime hotspots and reinforced their presence on the main strategic routes.
The aim of this mobilization was to prevent acts of delinquency, to carry out the necessary checks and to strengthen security in the lead-up to Gamou, marked by the arrival of many faithful in Tivaouane.
35 people arrested in Thiès
In Thiès, the operation resulted in the arrest of 35 people. Among them, 31 were arrested for identity checks, while three were arrested for public intoxication. Another person was arrested for failing to comply with a court order.
Police also impounded five vehicles for various offences and impounded nine motorcycles.
In total, 84 items were seized during the checks carried out in the city.
15 arrests in Tivaouane
In Tivaouane, where the faithful converge for the Gamou, law enforcement also carried out a series of checks.
Fifteen people were arrested. Among them, 11 were arrested for identity checks, two for public drunkenness, one for failure to comply with a court order and another for theft.
The control operations also resulted in the seizure of 35 items.
Through this large-scale operation, the National Police intends to maintain strong pressure on crime-prone areas and deter potential offenders during this period of high traffic.
The plan also aims to allow the faithful expected in Tivaouane to travel and reach the religious city in the best possible security conditions, as the 2026 Gamou approaches.
