Situation des ponts Émile Badiane et Tobor : Guy Marius Sagna lance des piques et interpelle le Gouvernement
From Ziguinchor, under the second Tobor bridge, Guy Marius Sagna, a member of parliament from the 15th legislature, delivered a scathing statement against the Senegalese government. His site visit to the Émile Badiane bridge and the coastline allowed him to witness firsthand the critical state of the infrastructure and denounce a policy of empty promises that are not translated into action.

He points out that, as a representative of the people, elected to the 14th and then the 15th legislatures, he questioned the government at least three times between 2024 and 2026 about the state of the bridges in Ziguinchor. "Access to Ziguinchor is only possible via these bridges. Without them, one has to go around via Goudomp, an endless detour. That's why we demand clear answers."
The MP cites repeated commitments from successive ministers, such as Yankhoba Diémé and Déthié Fall, Minister of Infrastructure, who had assured everyone that the tendering process and construction work would begin. During the reopening of Ziguinchor airport a few months ago, it was even announced that the groundbreaking ceremony would take place on July 31, 2026. However, three days before that date, on July 28, a press release from Ageroute announced the postponement of the project, without providing a new deadline.
Guy Marius Sagna denounces a blatant lack of respect for the residents: “The Senegalese government hasn’t even apologized. Who do they think they are? Apologize to the Senegalese people, especially those in Ziguinchor.” For him, elected officials, ministers, and the President of the Republic are servants of the people and must be held accountable. He draws a parallel with Japan, where leaders publicly apologize and acknowledge responsibility for even the slightest failure in public services, even a simple power outage.
On the ground, the urgency is palpable. The existing infrastructure features exposed metal, stone blocks, and cracks that threaten the safety of users. Vehicles and trucks have already been involved in accidents there. "Prevention is better than cure. Waiting for a major disaster to act would be irresponsible," he emphasized. The residents aren't asking for groundbreaking ceremonies, but for the actual commencement and complete completion of the work.

Finally, Guy Marius Sagna announced that he had submitted a new written question in August 2026, the third or fourth since April 2024, demanding clear explanations and a new official start date for the Tobor bridge construction project. For him, this project has become a test of the Senegalese state's credibility: "The Senegalese people are not waiting for speeches, but for action. The Tobor bridge must be built, and the Émile Badiane bridge must be made safe."
