Sokone : Un présumé trafiquant interpellé avec 5 kg de chanvre indien
The gendarmerie brigade in Sokone has put an end to the activities of a suspected drug trafficker operating between Senegal and The Gambia. Amadou Ba, originally from Kaël, was arrested on August 17, 2026, with 5 kg of cannabis.
Intelligence was crucial in this operation. According to the information gathered, the gendarmes had been alerted to the arrival in Sokone of Amadou Ba, who had allegedly obtained 5 kg of Indian hemp in Gambia before heading towards the town on a Jakarta motorcycle.
The suspect, who was carrying the drugs in a black backpack, was actively being sought by the Sokone brigade. On August 17, the gendarmes, under the command of Commander Ndiaye, set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the town.
Upon arrival, the motorcyclist was reportedly seen driving at high speed. Ordered to stop, he allegedly refused to comply and forced his way through the police roadblock, triggering a chase of several kilometers before he was caught and subdued.
A search of Amadou Ba's backpack led gendarmes to discover 5 kg of cannabis, according to the investigation. The suspect was taken to the Sokone brigade headquarters for further processing.
Following the investigation, he was brought before the Fatick prosecutor's office on August 21, 2026 for international drug trafficking.
This arrest illustrates, once again, the vigilance of the defense and security forces in the face of drug trafficking networks between The Gambia and Senegal. The investigation will notably aim to determine the exact origin of the drugs, any accomplices of the suspect, and the destination of the seized merchandise.
