Thiès : 60 ans après leur création, les MSAD peinent toujours à attirer les visiteurs
Despite their importance in promoting Senegalese art and culture, the Senegalese Decorative Arts Manufactures (MSAD) in Thiès remain largely unknown to the general public. Sixty years after their creation, this cultural institution is still seeking to attract more visitors and strengthen its ties with the local population.
To reverse this trend, the General Directorate of MSAD is multiplying initiatives aimed at bringing the structure closer to the people of Thiès and Senegalese people in general.
“For some time now, all our activities have aimed to open doors to the people of Thiès and to Senegalese people in general,” said MSAD’s Director General, Bassirou Thiam.
He was speaking this Sunday, on the occasion of a hike organized as part of the celebration of the institution's 60th anniversary.
According to him, the lack of awareness of MSAD among citizens contrasts with the place that this structure occupies in the promotion of national artistic heritage and the cultural diplomacy of Senegal throughout the world.
“MSAD is a structure that is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year but is almost unknown to the average Senegalese person. Its heritage status, especially in Senegal’s cultural diplomacy throughout the world, should encourage the people of Thiès to come and visit MSAD,” he insisted.
