Thiès : Arrêté avec 40 cornets de chanvre indien, un tôlier récidiviste plaide les difficultés financières
The Thiès court of flagrant offenses tried A. Diouf, a sheet metal worker by profession, on Friday, prosecuted for offering or transferring Indian hemp, after being arrested in possession of 40 cones of this drug in his field.
According to the case file, this is not the defendant's first appearance before the courts. He has, in fact, been convicted twice for similar offenses, a fact that weighed heavily in the proceedings.
In court, A. Diouf did not contest the facts. He admitted to possessing the drugs and stated that he intended to sell them, but was unable to sell his merchandise. He explained that he was caught in his field with the 40 packets.
The defendant attempted to justify his behavior by citing financial difficulties. He stated that his sheet metal business was no longer profitable and that he was facing intense family pressure, which he claimed had driven him to drug trafficking. He also swore to renounce all drug-related activities in the future.
The public prosecutor, considering the facts to be consistent and sufficiently established, requested the strict application of the law.
The case has been adjourned for deliberation.
