Thiès : Le chef d'agence de la LONASE agressé pendant son jogging
“I have filed a complaint with the courts and the Gendarmerie Research Brigade, while also appealing to the Minister of the Interior regarding the circulation of motorcycles without license plates.” The alert was raised by the head of the Senegalese National Lottery (LONASE) agency in Thiès, Édouard Latouffe, who claims to have been the victim of a snatch-and-grab robbery while jogging near the Islamic and Agricultural Banks of Thiès, not far from the Promenade des Thiessois, around 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
In his account, Édouard Latouffe explains that individuals on a motorcycle followed him before taking advantage of a moment of inattention to snatch his cell phone. "I offered no resistance," he states, before emphasizing that "surveillance cameras installed in the area could help reconstruct the precise sequence of events."
The branch manager claims to have obtained video footage from a money transfer shop located near the scene of the attack. He has also shared the video on social media, although, at this stage, the available evidence does not allow for the formal identification of the alleged perpetrators.
Following this attack, Édouard Latouffe initiated legal proceedings by contacting the Gendarmerie's Research Brigade. Beyond his personal case, he strongly condemns the risks associated with the proliferation of Jakarta motorcycles without license plates. "No one is safe anymore," he warns, making a direct appeal to the Minister of the Interior.
Describing the insecurity linked to two-wheelers as a "social, even societal cancer", Édouard Latouffe calls on the authorities to show "boldness and political will" to eradicate these practices, while reaffirming his confidence in the justice system and the defense and security forces.
