Thiès : Les câblodistributeurs accusent Canal+ de « banditisme commercial »
Cable distributors in Thiès have taken a stand to denounce what they call an "attempt to economically kill" their activities.
Speaking to the press, the leaders of this group claimed to be victims of "systematic harassment" by their competitor Canal+, accused of carrying out operations to dismantle their facilities under the cover of procedures related to alleged fraudulent signal captures.
According to cable companies, these operations, carried out with the support of law enforcement, are causing significant damage to their business and directly penalizing their subscribers. "Thousands of households are left without signal, and therefore without access to information and entertainment," they lamented.
The group's leaders claim to have won several legal proceedings, citing in particular favorable decisions rendered by the Courts of Appeal of Kaolack, Ziguinchor and Saint-Louis as well as by the High Court of Louga.
Beyond the legal aspects, they cite considerable financial losses. According to them, the dismantling operations result in the destruction of cables, the disappearance of equipment, and the deterioration of equipment that must be replaced. They estimate these losses at several million CFA francs.
Describing the situation as "commercial banditry", cable distributors are calling on the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the Public Prosecutor as well as the highest authorities of the State to intervene in order to guarantee what they consider fair competition in the audiovisual sector.
The cable companies also announced their intention to take legal action for destruction of property, theft, economic sabotage, and slander against anyone who damages their facilities. "We will go to the very end to protect our investments, the work of our teams, and above all, the rights of our subscribers," the group's representatives concluded.
