Tivaouane and Thienaba: Yango Senegal supports the Gamou celebrations by providing essential equipment to pilgrims

The Gamou festival draws huge crowds to religious cities across the country every year. Faced with the immense logistical challenges of such an influx, solidarity initiatives are multiplying. It is within this context that Yango Senegal has chosen to provide concrete support to local communities and pilgrims in Tivaouane and Thiénaba.

For the cities hosting the Gamou, the arrival of thousands of visitors in just a few days presents a constant organizational challenge. The need for infrastructure for reception, rest, and logistics quickly becomes apparent on the ground. It is to meet these practical requirements that the Yango Senegal teams mobilized, delivering essential equipment and supplies to improve the pilgrims' stay.

An approach rooted in listening and proximity

Rather than acting remotely, representatives from the company traveled directly to Tivaouane and Thiénaba. This allowed them to meet with local religious authorities, notably the Khalifa of Thiénaba and representatives of the Khalifas of Tivaouane. This constructive dialogue enabled them to gain a firsthand understanding of the realities on the ground and tailor their aid to the specific needs expressed by the communities.

“Events like Gamou unite communities, but they also create very real needs when towns host a large number of pilgrims over a short period,” explains Aïcha Niang, Country Manager of Yango Senegal . “Our objective was therefore very simple: to understand where practical support could be useful and contribute accordingly. We were honored to support the communities of Tivaouane and Thiénaba, as well as the pilgrims they welcomed.”
