Tivaouane - Hydraulique : Les populations risquent de trimer les années à venir et surtout lors des grands événements (Gamou, Ziaar)
“For years, Tivaouane has been experiencing both cyclical and structural difficulties in the water sector, ranging from pressure drops to a total lack of water in many neighborhoods, especially during the annual Gamou festival, which draws millions of people for days, while the municipality has only 102,000 inhabitants (see the latest census, with a growth rate of 29% every 10 years).” This denunciation comes from Moulay Abdou Aziz Diop, grandson of El Hadji Malick Sy (RTA) and a member of religious civil society.
The religious leader laments that "this year thousands, even millions, of pilgrims have suffered from a chronic lack of water during the Gamou with the intense heatwave and problems related to hygiene for toilets, catering and public health with the mixing of wastewater and rainwater among other things."
Moulay Dabaakh reminds us that "to govern is to foresee" and warns: "If structural measures are not considered in terms of strengthening and densifying the existing network, renewing pipes, constructing new boreholes in addition to supplying water from Lake Guiers and other measures that require short and medium-term investments, the populations risk experiencing worse conditions in the years to come and especially during major events such as Gamou, Ziaar and others such as Friday prayers at the Grand Mosque, once it is opened to the general public."
