Tivaouane : le Président Diomaye Faye prêche l’unité et la paix au Sénégal
In the lead-up to the Gamou of Tivaouane, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, visited the Caliph General of the Tijaniyya order, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour. The Head of State expressed his pride in returning to the holy city of El Hadji Malick Sy and paid a great tribute to the spiritual legacy left by the founder of the Fayda Tijaniyya in Senegal.
“It is a great source of pride for us to come to Tivaouane today to visit the General Khalif Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour. We thank God for allowing us to attend this day in peace and good health,” said the President of the Republic.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye also emphasized the symbolic dimension of Tivaouane, the city of El Hadji Malick Sy, whose work and legacy he praised, passed down to his descendants.
“We are in a symbolic place, the city of El Hadji Malick Sy, a man of God who did a lot for Senegal. He left a legacy to his descendants and they are watching over this legacy, especially the Khalif General Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour. These are blessings for Senegal and we give thanks to the Almighty,” he stressed.
"A theme that resonates with current events in our societies."
The Head of State also welcomed the theme chosen this year by the Caliph General of the Tijaniyya for the Gamou. He believes that this theme, focused in particular on unity and a shared destiny, is of particular importance in the current context.
"This is a very important theme that alludes to unity with God and with communities. We have the same destiny. We all come from God and we will all return to Him. This common destiny must unite us," said Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The President of the Republic announced that he would follow with "great interest" the exchanges, panels and symposia devoted to this theme, in order to draw lessons from them.
Reviewing the State's commitments in Tivaouane
Beyond the religious dimension of his visit, Bassirou Diomaye Faye indicated that he came to Tivaouane to listen to the recommendations of the General Khalif, but also to take stock of the commitments made by the State in favor of the religious city.
"We also came to the General Khalif to listen to his advice and recommendations, and above all to discuss with him the commitments that the government had made for Tivaouane and to make the observation myself," he explained.
The president specifically mentioned stormwater drainage projects and social water connections.
According to him, 4,000 social connections have been made since 2024, and an additional 2,000 have been added this year. He also assured that the budget allocated to these various projects had been increased in order to accelerate their implementation.
Friday prayer in Tivaouane and call for peace
The President of the Republic has finally announced his decision to perform Friday prayers in Tivaouane, an opportunity for him to offer prayers for all the pilgrims and for Senegal.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye specifically requested the prayers of the General Khalif for peace and stability in the country, as well as to enable the government to carry out its mission.
"We ask the Caliph General for prayers for peace in Senegal and for the government so that we can accomplish our mission for Senegal," he said.
He also expressed his hope that the decisions made by his government would be guided by careful listening, clear thinking, and the defense of the interests of Senegal and the Senegalese people. "We ask for prayers for peace and stability, which are essential for a nation," he emphasized.
In conclusion, the Head of State prayed for a long life and good health to the General Khalif of the Tijaniyya, so that he may continue to accompany Senegal and its leaders with his advice and prayers.
