Touba : 60 millions F CFA en faux billets saisis par la BR de Saly, un présumé marabout au cœur du réseau
The Saly Research Brigade (BR), under the Mbour Gendarmerie Company, dismantled a counterfeit currency trafficking network in Touba. The seizure involved an estimated value of 60 million CFA francs, according to exclusive information obtained by Seneweb. The suspect, Mr. Dieng, who claims to be a scrap metal dealer and resides in Touba, was taken into custody on October 15th and brought before Prosecutor Augustin Yakhar Faye, head of the Mbour prosecutor's office, on Monday, October 19, 2026. He is being prosecuted for possession and attempted trafficking of counterfeit currency, as well as for fraud amounting to 10 million CFA francs.

It all began on October 10, 2026. The Saly Criminal Investigation Brigade received a tip about a counterfeit currency trafficking operation. Following a carefully planned operation, the investigators first contacted an individual, SMS, who presented himself as a marabout (religious leader) residing in Touba. Their objective was to order a batch of counterfeit bills worth 60,000,000 CFA francs from him, in exchange for 10,000,000 CFA francs in genuine banknotes.
The meeting in Touba and the arrest
A meeting was scheduled for October 15th in Touba, where investigators from the Saly Criminal Investigation Brigade (BR) went. After contacting the alleged marabout, he dispatched two men to the location on a motorcycle. The gendarmes then arrested one of them, Mr. Dieng, who was found in possession of a stash of blank banknotes wrapped between two counterfeit 100-euro bills.

The suspect's statements and the searches
When questioned about possessing the banknotes, Mr. Dieng stated that he had received them via text message. Detectives immediately went to his home, but he was not there. Despite several phone calls, he refused to appear. A search of his residence, conducted in the presence of his family members, yielded nothing.

Mr. Dieng was taken to the BR (Brigade de Recherches - Research Brigade) of the Mbour company. At the conclusion of the judicial proceedings, the suspect was presented to the head of the Mbour prosecutor's office, Prosecutor Augustin Yakhar Faye, on Monday, October 19.
