Touba : ils héritent du cabinet médical de leur père et s’improvisent médecins pendant 3 ans
Brought before the Diourbel Correctional Court, three men – two brothers aged 72 and 62, and their accomplice JL Badji (57 years old) – are accused of having clandestinely operated, for three years, a medical practice inherited from their deceased father, a state-certified nurse.
However, as L'Observateur points out, they only had "nursing assistant" diplomas and no authorization to practice medicine.
The eldest brother handled consultations, accounting, and acted as the "pharmacist." He illegally obtained supplies from drug depots and a complicit pharmacy in Touba, which he then resold within the practice. Patients also testified to having received consultations and purchased prescriptions at this clinic.
Believing that these activities endangered the lives of numerous patients, the prosecutor requested a two-year prison sentence, with six months to be served, for the three defendants. The trio, remanded in custody, will learn their fate on November 17, the date of the verdict.
