Touba : un boutiquier de 60 ans engrosse sa voisine de 16 ans
El H. Niang, a 60-year-old shopkeeper and father of four, was sentenced for impregnating his 16-year-old neighbor, A. Sall, reports L'Observateur.
The discovery of pregnancy
The case broke on July 22nd. On that day, Aliou Sall, a retired police officer, contacted the Touba special police station after discovering his daughter's situation. It was after "incessant stomach pains and intense questioning by her brothers and sisters" that the teenager confessed, identifying the local shopkeeper, a regular at the house, as the child's father.
A medical examination carried out at the Matlaboul Fawzeyni hospital in Touba subsequently confirmed the minor's condition.
Two versions in the dock
At the hearing, A. Sall accused El H. Niang of sexual assault and threats. In tears, she recounted how she had "been surprised alone at home, thrown onto her mother's bed, gagged with her own headscarf and raped under threat of reprisals."
The defendant, for his part, admitted to being the child's father while denying the rape charges. He maintained that the relationship was consensual, claiming he had "given in to the minor's provocations."
The teenager's father did not seek any financial compensation, leaving the matter to the courts. The prosecution had requested a five-year prison sentence for the defendant. For his part, defense attorney Serigne Diongue pleaded for leniency. At the end of the proceedings, the court found El H. Niang guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison, the newspaper reports.
