The Nioro Mobile Customs Brigade, attached to the Kaolack Subdivision (Central Regional Directorate), is intensifying its crackdown on criminal networks. In just four days, customs officers intercepted 28 kilograms of cannabis, with a total estimated value of 3,360,000 CFA francs.

The first interception took place on August 28, 2026, during a routine check. Officers discovered 11 kilograms of drugs concealed in the suitcase of a woman in her thirties residing in Oulampane, in the Bignona department. Traveling in an intercity transport vehicle, the suspect was acting as a courier for a network operating between the south and the central-west of the country.

The second seizure occurred on September 1, 2026, aboard an intercity minibus traveling between Carrefour Diaroumé and Dakar. Using a similar method, 17 kilograms of "yamba" (cannabis) were found hidden in the luggage of a 28-year-old man residing in Bounkiling, who had been recruited to transport the drugs to the capital.

Key points of the operations

Overall result: 28 kg of Indian hemp seized (value of 3.36 million FCFA)

First seizure (August 28): 11 kg intercepted on the Bignona - Centre-Ouest axis

Second seizure (September 1st): 17 kg discovered on the Carrefour Diaroumé - Dakar road

Profile of suspects: Two smugglers aged 28 and around 30, used by organized networks.

Faced with the recruitment of vulnerable citizens by criminal organizations, the Customs Administration reaffirms the vigilance of its personnel in the field and calls on the population to strengthen their collaboration with the security forces to curb the expansion of trafficking.
