Tribunal de Thiès : Il dérobe le téléphone de son hôte et plaide l’état d'ébriété
The Thiès court of first instance judged A. Diop on Monday, who was prosecuted for the theft of a Tecno brand mobile phone belonging to N. Diop.
In court, the plaintiff explained that the defendant was a regular visitor to his home. On the day of the incident, he had left his phone in a bedroom before going to the kitchen. Upon his return, N. Diop stated that he noticed the phone was missing and that A. Diop had left the premises in the meantime, which aroused his suspicions.
To get to the bottom of it, he set out to find him. But A. Diop had fled when he realized he was wanted. He was eventually apprehended, handed over to the police, and remanded in custody.
In court, he admitted to taking the phone while intoxicated. According to his explanation, he wanted to use the device to make a call. He also stated that he had been drinking alcohol for some time due to difficulties and family pressures.
The public prosecutor argued that the evidence of theft and the defendant's confession had sufficiently established the facts of the case. He therefore requested that the law be applied.
After deliberation, the court found A. Diop guilty of theft and sentenced him to two months in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 50,000 CFA francs.
