Tribunal de Thiès : Trois mois ferme pour un peintre surpris en train de voler de la ferraille en tricycle
The painter F. Diop appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses to answer charges of scrap metal theft committed against a local factory. The defendant was accompanied by an accomplice at the time of the theft.
In court, F. Diop explained that the events took place on a Sunday morning, around 9 a.m. Initially, he maintained that he had no fraudulent intent, stating that he worked for the company. He had then brought his tricycle onto the factory premises to load scrap metal.
It was as he was leaving the premises that he was intercepted by the security guard. When questioned by the guard, F. Diop initially claimed that an individual named Ousmane Ndiaye had ordered him to retrieve the equipment.
However, the defendant quickly recanted this initial version of events. He eventually admitted that he had wanted to seize the scrap metal in order to resell it. To justify his actions, he claimed he was seeking funds to pay for his prescription medications.
Considering the offense to be perfectly clear, the public prosecutor requested a sentence of two years imprisonment, including six months of mandatory imprisonment, against the defendant.
Ruling on the matter, the court found F. Diop guilty and sentenced him to two years imprisonment, including three months of actual imprisonment.
