The ongoing conflict between the management of the New Textile Company of Senegal (NSTS) in Thiès and its former employees, over decades of unpaid wages and benefits, as well as critical land issues, was the subject of yet another press conference. The former employees, in desperation, are making a heartfelt plea to the authorities.
They are demanding compensation for their rights, which have been pending since 2000, and denouncing the opaque management of the company's real estate assets. Meeting in a general assembly yesterday in front of the factory, the group of former NSTS workers once again expressed their dismay at the broken promises of Managing Director Ibrahima Macodou Fall.
The group emphasizes "the hell of the former agents, but especially of the widows and orphans of the missing, who find themselves in unimaginable collective suffering, because Ibrahima Macodou Fall never respected his commitments to them."
These former employees, who have been on furlough since 2000, say they have been waiting for a quarter of a century for their furlough and retirement benefits. "We were 435 workers, and three-quarters of them have passed away. Their families are now very weary," they said, their hearts heavy with sorrow.
They are appealing to the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, and to the government to come to their aid.
