Viande destinée aux animaux de Bandia et vendue sur le marché : La BR de Keur Massar arrête un chauffeur d’Auchan avec 670 kg
The Keur Massar Research Brigade (BR) has put an end to a meat trafficking operation unfit for consumption that had been thriving for several months in the Keur Massar forest. A. Ndiaye, 45, who claims to be a driver working for Auchan, was arrested on September 5, 2026, and brought before Prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office, on Tuesday, on charges of criminal conspiracy, illegal sale of 670 kg of meat unfit for consumption, and endangering the lives of others.
The case dates back almost two months. The Keur Massar Criminal Investigation Brigade (BR) was informed that a meat trafficking operation involving meat unfit for consumption was taking place in the Keur Massar forest. The gendarmes observed that a refrigerated vehicle was making deliveries under conditions that violated all hygiene standards.
A surveillance operation was then deployed for almost a month. But at each attempt at interception, the suspect managed to escape the police thanks to a network of lookouts and intelligence agents posted all along his route, who warned him of the presence of law enforcement.
It was only on September 5th that A. Ndiaye was apprehended in the Keur Massar forest, caught red-handed while delivering meat to private individuals. Upon the arrival of the gendarmes, the men fled, taking some of the merchandise with them.
Taken to the station, A. Ndiaye explained that he had been employed by Auchan since 2024 as a driver. His official duties consist of delivering meat products and collecting and delivering meat waste between Auchan stores in Dakar.
According to his statements, this butchery waste, now unfit for consumption, should in principle be transported to the Bandia wildlife reserve. As part of this system, A. Ndiaye collects unsold meat from several Auchan stores in Dakar, including Mermoz, Sacré-Cœur, Yoff, Grand Mbao, ZAC Mbao, and Diamniadio, before transporting it to Bandia. Each delivery is supposed to be validated by a receipt affixed to the delivery slip. It is this system that he has repeatedly circumvented.
The suspect admitted to investigators that he had repeatedly resold this unfit meat instead of transporting it to Bandia.
An organized resale network targeting the Medina market
According to his confession, the meat was sold for between 45,000, 100,000, and 150,000 CFA francs per bag to three individuals of Guinean nationality. The contact person within this group was a certain Ame. These three resellers distributed the meat on the local market, particularly at the exclusive meat market located in the Medina district, according to the investigation.
Given the risks this meat poses to public health, A. Ndiaye was taken into custody. The three suspected resellers, including Ame, are being sought by the BR (Brigade de Recherches - Research Brigade). The meat unfit for consumption, seized from the vehicle, is destined for destruction. The refrigerated truck, a Mitsubishi, has been impounded at the BR headquarters pending a court decision.
Following the investigation by the BR of Keur Massar, the suspect was presented this Tuesday to prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the prosecutor's office of Pikine-Guédiawaye.
