Twenty-six-year-old A. Diop appeared in court on charges of allegedly stealing a mobile phone. The case originated with a complaint filed by F. Niang, who accused the defendant of breaking into his home around 9 p.m. and stealing a Tecno brand mobile phone and 50,000 FCFA.

According to the plaintiff, it was after noticing her phone was missing that he and his family began searching for the defendant. They reportedly found her in a shop while she was buying a drink. However, a search of the premises failed to locate either the phone or the money.

Continuing their search, they followed her steps and found the phone she had abandoned along the way. A. Diop was then arrested and remanded in custody.

In court, the defendant categorically denied the theft charges. She did, however, admit to entering F. Niang's home, but for a completely different reason: to relieve herself.

A. Diop explained that she had gone to see her tailor, Ndongo, before noticing his absence. She stated that she then went to F. Niang's house to urinate and received permission to enter from the latter's father. "I didn't steal anything from that house. They searched me and found nothing on me," she maintained in court.

The prosecution has requested that the law be applied.

The case has been adjourned until September 14, 2026, the date on which A. Diop's fate will be decided.
