The four suspects were brought before the public prosecutor at the Rufisque High Court, Cheikh Diakhoumpa, yesterday, Friday, who remanded them in custody.
Snatch-and-grab robbery with a machete: A. TALL arrested
The first case concerns A. TALL, aged 20, a motorcycle driver residing in Rufisque. He was taken into custody on August 19, 2026, for alleged nighttime robbery with a bladed weapon, involving a Tecno Spark 10 mobile phone belonging to A. BA.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in an area under the jurisdiction of the brigade. Alerted by Delegate S. Mansour, the gendarmes immediately went to the scene.
According to A. BA's statements, his daughter was outside their home, using her phone, when she was allegedly surprised by the accused. He reportedly brandished a machete and snatched her phone.
The victim cried for help, and the suspect reportedly fled after throwing away the phone. Spotted by local residents, he was chased and apprehended after a pursuit. The residents then handed him over to the patrol officers, who took him to the police station.
When questioned by investigators, A. TALL admitted to the acts. He explained that he acted this way because his mother was ill and he was looking for money to pay for her prescriptions.
Attempted sheep theft: Mr. MBENGUE denies the charges
On August 20, 2026, the Tivaouane-Peulh local police station took into custody Mr. MBENGUE, a 54-year-old merchant, married to two wives and father of four, residing in the Apix neighborhood. He is being prosecuted for attempted sheep theft with a bladed weapon and assault and battery, the precise charges of which were yet to be determined.
The case dates back to the same day, around 5:30 a.m., in the Darourahmane 1 district. The gendarmes were alerted by L. NIANG, who allegedly surprised an individual as he was going down the stairs of his house, after having tried to open the main door to access the sheep kept on the terrace.
As he tried to confront him, the man allegedly struck him on the forehead with a machete. Alerted by their father's shouts, L. Niang's children woke up. A chase ensued, and they managed to catch and subdue the suspect, who was still in possession of his weapon.
The injured man was first taken to the local health post to receive initial treatment, before being escorted to the police station.
During his hearing, Mr. MBENGUE categorically denied the accusations. He stated that his accusers had the wrong person and maintained that he had not been involved in the matter in any way.
Sale of cellulose products: D. NDIAYE arrested with 75 units
The third case concerns D. NDIAYE, aged 24, single with no children, a tiler residing in Apix. He was taken into custody on August 19, 2026 for possession, use and trafficking of cellulose products as well as for endangering the lives of others.
On the afternoon of August 19, around 3 p.m., several videos reportedly circulated, implicating the young man in the sale of cellulose products, including solvents, intended for consumption by young people.
Following this report, the police set up a system and carried out a foot patrol at the former pharmacy, the presumed place of sale of these products.
On site, they arrested D. NDIAYE, already known to the services for alleged involvement in this type of trade and who had already been the subject of proceedings.
When he was arrested, he was in possession of a bag containing 75 units of cellulosic products, as well as 6,000 CFA francs, which he presented as coming from his sales.
During questioning, D. Ndiaye admitted to the facts. He explained that he bought a carton for 10,000 CFA francs and resold it for 24,000 CFA francs.
