Yeumbeul-Sud: Two suspected thieves lynched by a mob at the "Labamba" market

Yeumbeul-Sud : deux présumés voleurs lynchés par la foule au marché « Labamba »

Two men suspected of burglarizing a shop were severely beaten by a crowd on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the Labamba market in Yeumbeul-Sud. Seriously injured, they were taken to the Idrissa Pouye Hospital in Grand Yoff. The public prosecutor, Saliou Dicko, was notified and an investigation has been opened.

On Thursday, November 5, 2026, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Yeumbeul-Sud police station was informed of the arrest of two suspected thieves, followed by a lynching, at the "Labamba" market. Members of the service's investigation unit immediately went to the scene.

Two men lying on the ground, almost lynched to death

Upon arrival, police found the two men lying on the ground, beaten nearly to death by the crowd. They were identified as B. SYLLA, a tailor residing in Yeumbeul-Sud, and M. BADIANE, a mechanic also residing in Yeumbeul-Sud. They are 27 and 28 years old, respectively.

According to information gathered on site, the two men allegedly broke into a shop belonging to Mr. Diop. They were then reportedly confronted by the crowd, who then attacked them.

Both men had serious head and arm injuries. Their condition required evacuation by firefighters, accompanied by members of the search brigade.

Admitted to the emergency room of the Idrissa Pouye Hospital in Grand Yoff, B. SYLLA and M. BADIANE received initial treatment, pending further examinations to accurately assess their state of health.

The public prosecutor, Saliou Dicko, has been informed of the case. An investigation has been opened to shed full light on the circumstances of that turbulent night at the "Labamba" market, including both the alleged robbery and the subsequent lynching.
