Yeumbeul-Sud: A 15-month-old baby abandoned by his mother at a health post

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, around 5:00 PM, the Yeumbeul-Sud police station was contacted by the head nurse of the Cheikh Sidate Fall health post to report that a young woman of about 20 years old, who gave her name as D. Sarr and said she lived in the Afia neighborhood, had abandoned her approximately 15-month-old daughter, named MF Amar. The young mother had taken her for a medical check-up.

According to the nurse who greeted her upon arrival, the young woman had indicated that her child was suffering from a high fever and vomiting. While the nurse was taking the baby's vital signs, she noticed the mother walking away from the waiting room.

When questioned about her reasons for leaving, the young woman reportedly explained that she had no money on her. She added that the child's father was outside the facility and that she was going to ask him for some. It was for this reason that the nurse let her leave. But she did not reappear until nightfall.

Faced with this situation, the station manager alerted the police, especially since the phone number left by the young mother belonged to someone else. When contacted, this person stated her name was A. Ndong and that she lived near the Baye Fall bus stop. She was in Jaxaay at the time and said she didn't know the young woman. However, she indicated that she might come by later to inquire about the situation and check if the young woman and her child were known in her neighborhood.

A wanted notice has been issued, an investigation has been opened

A search has been launched through neighborhood representatives and the "Badiene Gokh" (neighborhood godmothers) to find the parents of the baby, who is still at the health center. Prosecutor Saliou Dicko has been informed and an investigation has been opened.

According to the latest reports, the child's grandmother has turned herself in to the Yeumbeul-Sud police. The exact circumstances of the baby's abandonment are still under investigation.
