Yeumbeul-Sud: A marijuana trafficker arrested by police in the middle of packaging

A. Sy , a 32-year-old employee of a national cleaning company, was caught at his home in Thiaroye Kao with approximately 300 grams of marijuana and 40 packets of hashish. He will be brought before the public prosecutor at the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court, Saliou Dicko, this Friday.

It was a piece of information that triggered everything. The information, exploited by the research brigade (BR) of the Yeumbeul-Sud police station, placed under the command of Captain Sow, led investigators to intervene on Thursday, October 22, 2026, around 8 a.m.

According to information gathered, the suspect was in the habit of obtaining his supplies early in the morning before packaging the drugs for resale later that day. The BR (Brigade de Répression du Banditisme - Brigade for the Repression of Drugs) then set up surveillance around his home. Detectives waited until he unpacked his merchandise before bursting in and arresting A. Sy as he was distributing the cannabis into bags.

The search uncovered a bag containing approximately 300 grams of cannabis and 40 packets of the same drug. Two pairs of scissors and several bags intended for packaging were also seized. During a pat-down search, police found 3,000 CFA francs on the suspect (one 2,000 CFA franc note and two 500 CFA franc notes).

Taken to the police station where he was questioned about the origin of the drugs, he admitted ownership but refused to reveal the identity of his supplier.

The seized drugs, money, and packaging materials have been placed under seal. Having been informed of the facts, the public prosecutor is scheduled to meet with the suspect this Friday as part of the legal proceedings.
