Two men, described as marabouts (religious leaders), were arrested in Yoff by the Foire gendarmerie. They are suspected of having extorted more than 60,000,000 CFA francs from a merchant in exchange for mystical baths and sacrifices.

It all began during a trip to Kaolack. There, the merchant S. Diop met AD, who presented himself as a highly reputable marabout. Driven by the desire to succeed in life, S. Diop accepted the mystical baths offered by this man, whom Seneweb sources describe as a supposed charlatan.

From that moment on, the merchant complied without question to everything the marabout told him. He reportedly sold all his possessions, including containers of spare parts and cars, to give the proceeds to AD. The sums paid thus reached more than 60,000,000 CFA francs.

This sum is not enough for AD and his alleged accomplice, OS. They try to extort more money from the merchant, claiming that the djinn they work with demands a sacrifice of 700,000 CFA francs for its release. A meeting is arranged in Yoff for the delivery of this sum.

The intervention of the gendarmerie

Having been informed of the events, the gendarmes from the Foire territorial brigade went to the scene and apprehended the two men. They are OS, 42 years old, who claims to be a farmer and lives in Yoff Layène, and AD, 67 years old, who also claims to be a farmer and lives in Yoff Layène.

When questioned about the events, the two suspects initially denied everything, but their claims were unconvincing. They asserted they did not know the complainant and had never been in contact with him. They eventually admitted to the acts, but only to exonerate themselves. According to them, they had simply provided the complainant with baths and prayers, accompanied by sacrifices, in order to ensure him a better future.

The two men were taken into custody for quackery and fraud involving more than 60,000,000 CFA francs. Following the investigation, they were brought before the High Court of Dakar.
