50 million CFA francs embezzled from the MECFAR mutual insurance company: the suspect intercepted by Rosso police on the road to Morocco

A police manhunt lasting nearly ten months has just come to an end on the country's northern border. On Saturday, August 29, 2026, at around 9 a.m., the Zac Mbao district police station was notified by telephone by the Rosso special police station of the arrest of a fugitive, identified as AC Sabaly.

The suspect's arrest is based on a procedure initiated at the end of the previous year. On November 4, 2025, the Zac Mbao district police station issued an official objection to AC Sabaly's entry into and exit from the national territory, following transmittal number 5513, dated October 1, 2025, for the purpose of arrest and escort.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, while attempting to cross the Rosso border crossing into Morocco, AC Sabaly's profile was immediately detected by the Securiport border control system. This alert triggered his immediate apprehension by officers on site.

Initially, the suspect was placed at the disposal of the central police station in Saint-Louis, pending his transfer. After notifying the public prosecutor, a team of officers from the Zac Mbao police station went to the location on Sunday, August 30, 2026, to retrieve AC Sabaly and bring him to their station for questioning.

This arrest follows a formal complaint filed with the public prosecutor by A. Badiane, chairman of the board of directors (PCA) of the Mutuelle d'épargne et de crédit (MECFAR).

According to the complaint from the management of the mutual insurance company, AC Sabaly is accused of having orchestrated the embezzlement of fifty million ( 50,000,000 ) CFA francs, before fleeing to Morocco, according to Seneweb sources.

After informing him of all his rights, investigators placed AC Sabaly in police custody for breach of trust. The preliminary investigation is currently continuing at the Zac Mbao police station to fully clarify the financial details of this embezzlement.
