Affaire Aminata Seck : l’ordre d’expulsion annulé, mais...
Senegalese basketball player Aminata Seck has obtained the cancellation of her deportation order from the United States and the reopening of her case, a decision rendered Wednesday by an immigration judge in Memphis.
Les Échos reports that the defense had contested the deportation order issued in September 2025 after the player failed to appear at a hearing. According to her lawyer, Hishem Alsalman, quoted by the newspaper, the judge ruled that Aminata Seck had demonstrated "not having received notification" of the hearing. Her case was thus reopened and the deportation order overturned, the daily newspaper notes.
Detained since August 7, the Senegalese woman is now seeking provisional release. A hearing is scheduled for November 26. Her lawyers argue that her continued detention is no longer justified since the deportation order was overturned. A case is also pending before the federal court in Kentucky to challenge the legality of her detention, according to Les Échos.
The defense is also highlighting her health condition. It claims that Aminata Seck "was scheduled to undergo cruciate ligament surgery on September 7th," but that she was unable to have it done due to her detention. Her lawyer also mentions hospitalization following a seizure. The player remains, for the time being, in the custody of immigration services.
