Ballon d’Or africain 2026 : Le Sénégal place trois prétendants dans la course
Senegal could once again add its name to the list of winners of the African Ballon d'Or. Three of its international players – Ismaïla Sarr, Pape Guèye, and Sadio Mané – are among the nominees for the 2026 CAF Awards. This notable presence places Senegal among the best-represented nations in this edition, tied with Morocco.
For Sadio Mané, this nomination opens the prospect of a third continental title. Already awarded the prize in 2019 and 2022, the striker could become the only Senegalese player to win this distinction three times. He would surpass El Hadj Diouf, a two-time winner in 2001 and 2002.
For their part, Ismaïla Sarr, who had a great season with Crystal Palace, and Pape Guèye, the sole scorer in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, will try to win their first African Ballon d'Or.
But the battle for this award promises to be particularly fierce. Morocco, finalists in the last AFCON, also has three candidates: Achraf Hakimi, winner of the previous edition and 13th in the 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings, Brahim Diaz, and Ismaël Saibari.
Other prominent figures in African football are also in the running. These include Amad Diallo of Ivory Coast, Yoane Wissa of Congo, Antoine Semenyo of Ghana, and Teboho Mokoena of South Africa.
The verdict will be announced on December 7 in Lagos, Nigeria, during the CAF Awards 2026 ceremony. Senegal will be crossing their fingers that one of its three representatives will succeed Achraf Hakimi and bring the prestigious trophy back to the country once again.
