English striker Harry Kane, winner of the Ballon d'Or on Monday, won by a very small margin, just 28 points, ahead of French star Kylian Mbappé, according to the detailed ranking published Friday by France Football.

Kane (33), the first Englishman to be crowned since Michael Owen in 2001, collected 40 first places among the 100 jurors and a total of 1,055 points, while the captain of the French team was placed first 23 times and finished with 1,027 points.

In 2025, PSG striker Ousmane Dembélé had won with 1,380 points and a lead of 321 points over Lamine Yamal.

With 881 points, the Spanish prodigy, world champion, failed to finish in 3rd place, 174 points behind the Bayern Munich striker who scored 73 goals in 65 matches played during the 2025-2026 season.

Rodri received 726 points, Lionel Messi 612, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia 541, Ousmane Dembélé 418, Erling Haaland 378, Michael Olisé 296 and Fabian Ruiz 201.

A one-point difference in 1996

The Ballon d'Or is awarded by a jury composed of one football journalist from each of the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings. They are asked to vote for their 10 best players, in order, from a list of 30 finalists compiled by journalists from France Football and L'Equipe. The 10 players are awarded 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point respectively.

The criteria are, in descending order, individual performance and decisiveness, collective results and track record, and finally the player's behavior.

The smallest margin in Ballon d'Or history dates back to 1996 when German Matthias Sammer edged out Brazilian Ronaldo by just one point (144 points to 143). The voting system was different then.

Le Ballon d’or est décerné des journalistes. Les Journalistes appartiennent à des Journaux qui appartiennent à des Groupes. Enfin ces groupes appartiennent à des Lobbys.
Désormais aucun Ballon d’or ne sera désigné s’il ne plaît pas aux Lobbys : il n’y a pas que les statistiques et les critères foot balistiques qui comptent.

Pourquoi ce Messi se place -t-il encore dans le top 5 du Ballon d'or? On vote par le nom maintenant. En 2023, ceux qui votent lui avaient offert injustement un ballon d'or. Il est temps de tourner la page.
