Barça : Jules Koundé dépasse Éric Abidal et entre dans l’histoire du club catalan
Jules Koundé has just etched his name a little further into FC Barcelona's history. Starting against Getafe in the 8th round of La Liga, the French international defender became the most capped French player in the history of the Catalan club.
After the international break, Barça returned to action with a home match against Getafe. For this game, Hansi Flick decided to give Jules Koundé a chance, despite him having only made two starts for the club this season. This choice allowed the Frenchman, who scored Barça's third goal, to reach a historic milestone in the Blaugrana colors.
Having arrived in the summer of 2022 from Sevilla FC, the 27-year-old defender has now made 194 appearances for FC Barcelona. He thus surpasses Éric Abidal, who played 193 matches for the Catalan club. Ousmane Dembélé completes the top three with 185 matches, ahead of Clément Lenglet (160) and Samuel Umtiti (134).
This performance confirms Koundé's important place in Barça's recent history. However, his start to the season has been marked by increased competition. On the right side of the defense, Éric García is regularly preferred by Hansi Flick, forcing the former Bordeaux player to accept less playing time.
Despite this delicate situation, Jules Koundé can now boast of having set a new record for French players who have played for FC Barcelona.
