Bayern Munich : « Remporter des trophées »... Kane sans détour sur son départ de Tottenham
Harry Kane reflects on the reasons that led him to leave Tottenham to join Bayern Munich, with the ambition of taking his game to the next level and winning trophies.
Harry Kane needed a new challenge. After spending nearly twenty years at Tottenham, where he became the club's all-time leading scorer with 280 goals, the recent 2026 Ballon d'Or winner decided to spread his wings and join Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023. A departure that marked the end of a long history with Spurs, but above all, the beginning of a new adventure for the Three Lions captain.
In a press conference, the striker explained his reasons for choosing Bayern Munich, notably mentioning his admiration for the Bavarian club. "I've always seen Bayern competing in the biggest competitions and winning trophies. My goal was to be part of that environment," he explained before facing Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. The Englishman also spoke about the influence of José Mourinho, who managed him at Tottenham between 2019 and 2021. "José supported me, and from that moment on, my game changed. I had more opportunities and more freedom," he said.

But it was the prospect of taking his game to the next level that ultimately convinced Harry Kane. Despite his remarkable individual performances in London, the striker had never managed to lift a major trophy with Tottenham. Bayern Munich represented an ideal opportunity to step up his game and experience an environment accustomed to major victories. "I quickly realized it was an opportunity to reach a higher level," he added. A choice he certainly doesn't seem to regret today. "I'm very happy to be at Bayern Munich," the England international concluded.
And so far, this choice is paying off. At 33, Harry Kane has already filled his trophy cabinet with two Bundesliga titles and a prestigious Ballon d'Or. The only blemish on his record is that the Champions League still eludes him. Last season, the English striker saw Bayern Munich enjoy a strong run in the competition, before their adventure ended in the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain. One last objective remains for the English striker, who is determined to continue making history with the Bavarian club.
