Brésil : La CBF veut réduire progressivement le quota de joueurs étrangers
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has decided to reduce the number of foreign players allowed to appear on a match sheet in the Brazilian league. The quota, currently set at nine, will be gradually reduced to five by 2030.
This reform addresses concerns about the playing time given to young Brazilian talents. The CBF aims to promote their integration and provide them with more opportunities within local clubs.
According to journalist Paulo Vinicius Coelho, this issue has become important for the national team's management. "The national team staff believes that the current problem with young Brazilian players is that they are not maturing because they are not playing," he explained on UOL.
The journalist cites the cases of Endrick and Estêvão in particular. Both young strikers left Brazil very early to join major European clubs, but their limited playing time, according to this analysis, raises questions about their development.
The quota reduction will be phased in. It will decrease from nine to eight foreign players in 2027, before gradually decreasing to five players allowed on a match sheet from 2030 onwards.
With this measure, the CBF intends to create more space for young Brazilian players and promote their progress in the national championship.
