CAF Awards 2026 : Édouard Mendy, Yassine Bounou et huit autres gardiens en course
The race for the title of African Goalkeeper of the Year 2026 is officially underway. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the ten goalkeepers shortlisted for this award, as part of the 2026 CAF Awards. Among the candidates are Senegal's Édouard Mendy, Morocco's Yassine Bounou, and South Africa's Ronwen Williams.
Accustomed to major competitions and international fixtures, the Al-Ahly goalkeeper is among the serious contenders for this award. But the Senegalese player will face stiff competition, notably from Yassine Bounou.
One of the main attractions of this list, however, remains the presence of Vozinha. The 40-year-old Cape Verdean goalkeeper particularly distinguished himself during the 2026 World Cup. His remarkable performances with the Blue Sharks earned him recognition far beyond the African continent. He was even shortlisted for the Yashin Trophy, which rewards the best goalkeeper in the world, at the last Ballon d'Or ceremony.
The list of ten contenders is completed by the Algerian Oussama Benbot, the Ivorian Yahia Fofana, the Congolese Lionel Mpasi, the Egyptians El Mahdy Soliman and Mostafa Shobeir, as well as the Moroccan Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti.
South African Ronwen Williams completes this group of ten goalkeepers vying to succeed the last winner of this continental award. The winner will be announced at the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony.
