Cameroun : Rigobert Song évoque l’évènement qui a défini son profil de "défenseur guerrier"
He is perhaps one of the greatest defenders in African football. Rigobert Song has forged a reputation as a tough libero throughout his career. His total commitment, marked by his ferocious sliding tackles and relentless intensity, combined with his imposing physical presence and calculated psychological intimidation, have made the Nkeng Likok native a formidable opponent for attackers worldwide.

In a recent interview with Flashscore, the former captain of Cameroon's Indomitable Lions discussed the event that gave birth to his playing identity.
“The red card I received at just 17 years old against Brazil (at the 1994 World Cup) was the true birth of my identity on the international stage. This episode instantly defined my profile as a defender: a fierce but loyal warrior,” said the two-time winner of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002.
Indeed, on June 25, 1994, during Cameroon's second group stage match against Brazil, young Rigobert Song received a red card for a late tackle on Bebeto, who had outpaced him on the right wing. The sky fell on the teenager, who was participating in his first major international football tournament.
