Coupe du monde 2026 : Bonne nouvelle pour Elye Wahi et la Côte d'Ivoire
Good news for Ivory Coast, two days before a decisive match of the 2026 World Cup. Uncertain due to an administrative problem related to his entry into Canadian territory, Elye Wahi is finally allowed to join the Elephants to face Germany, on Saturday at 10 p.m., during the second day of the group stage.
The 23-year-old striker was initially prevented from entering Canada due to an investigation in France. The OGC Nice player, on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, was being questioned in connection with suspected sports betting following the Ligue 1 match between Nice and Metz (0-0) on May 17. Investigators are trying to determine whether the yellow card received by the French-Ivorian was intentional, after unusual bets were placed on the sanction.
Faced with this situation, Canadian authorities initially refused him entry. The Ivorian Football Federation confirmed that the necessary administrative authorizations had not yet been obtained.
But the case ultimately had a favorable outcome. According to several French media outlets, the Marseille prosecutor's office sent a document to Canadian authorities stating that Elye Wahi is neither formally charged nor being prosecuted by the French justice system, despite the ongoing investigation.
Following this clarification, Canada lifted its refusal and allowed the player to enter the country. This decision allows the Ivory Coast coach to count on the former Marseille striker for this crucial match against Germany.
Wahi's presence is a significant boost for the Elephants, who will try to secure a positive result to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the round of 32.
