Absent from the World Cup for 52 years, DR Congo made its entry into the 2026 World Cup in Group K. Facing one of the favorites of the competition, Portugal, the Leopards delivered a fine performance to snatch a draw (1-1).
However, the match started very badly for the Congolese, with the Portuguese opening the scoring through João Neves with a beautiful header (6th).
But in the final seconds of the first half, Yoane Wissa managed to equalize. The Newcastle striker headed home a cross from Masuaku (45+5).
In the second half, despite several opportunities for both sides, the score did not change (1-1).
With this draw, DR Congo held one of the tournament favorites to a draw and frustrated Cristiano Ronaldo, who hoped to respond to his eternal rival Lionel Messi, who scored a hat trick the day before.
