Coupe du monde 2026 : Le Sénégal décroche le jackpot après sa qualification pour les 16es de finale
Senegal's qualification for the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup is not only a great sporting achievement. The Lions will also benefit from a significant financial reward.
After a brilliant performance against Iraq on the third matchday of the group stage, Pape Thiaw's men secured a commanding 5-0 victory. This win allowed them to advance to the next round, as they were among the eight best third-placed teams.
With only three points on the board, Senegal even made history by becoming the only team to qualify for the round of 32 with such a low total.
This qualification guarantees the Senegalese Football Federation a performance bonus of $15.525 million, approximately 9 billion CFA francs. This sum will then be distributed according to the rules established by the governing body of Senegalese football.
The adventure could become even more lucrative, however. A victory against Belgium in the round of 32 would significantly increase the Lions' earnings. Qualifying for the quarterfinals would boost their profits to over 14 billion CFA francs.
If they win against Belgium, Senegal would then face the winner of the match between Bosnia-Herzegovina and the United States.
For the 2026 edition, FIFA introduced a progressive prize system, rewarding teams based on their performance. Even teams eliminated in the group stage, ranked between 33rd and 48th place, will receive $13.225 million, or approximately 7.5 billion CFA francs.
