Coupe du monde 2026 : Manuel Neuer entre dans l’histoire avec un record inédit
Manuel Neuer continues to write his legend at the World Cup. Starting for Germany against Ivory Coast on Saturday, the German goalkeeper played his 21st match in the most prestigious international competition.
At 40 years old, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper thus becomes the goalkeeper with the most appearances in World Cup finals. He surpasses former French captain Hugo Lloris, who ended his international career with 20 appearances, in the 2022 World Cup final lost to Argentina after a penalty shootout (3-3, 2-4).
A World Cup winner in 2014 with the German national team, Neuer further cements his status as a benchmark in his position. His exceptional longevity and consistency at the highest level allow him to write a new chapter in a career already rich in trophies and accolades.
Remarkably, Manuel Neuer and Hugo Lloris also share a prestigious commonality: both goalkeepers have each won a World Cup, the German in 2014 in Brazil and the Frenchman in 2018 in Russia.
