Crystal Palace : Ismaïla Sarr toujours très marqué par son transfert avorté à Liverpool
While a move to Liverpool seemed imminent in the final hours of the transfer window, Senegalese striker Ismaïla Sarr ultimately stayed at Crystal Palace. This is a situation the former Génération Foot player will now have to overcome, according to his coach, Pierre Sage.
After an excellent season last year and finishing as Crystal Palace's top scorer, Ismaïla Sarr was heavily linked with Liverpool as the transfer window closed. A move to Anfield would have represented a significant step in the Senegalese international's career. However, negotiations ultimately fell through.
For Pierre Sage, this disappointment can naturally affect his player. "He certainly has to come to terms with this," explained the French coach, recalling that playing for a club of Liverpool's stature is the dream of many footballers.
The Eagles' coach, however, believes Sarr needs to quickly move on and focus on his team's objectives. "He had a great opportunity, but it didn't work out. If he wants to continue, he needs to have a good season with us, like last year," he said.
A return delayed by injury
At 28 years old, Ismaïla Sarr has yet to play a single match for Crystal Palace this season. The former Rennes and Watford player is currently hampered by a groin injury.
This injury notably kept him out of the first two Premier League matches, which resulted in defeats against Everton and Manchester City. He is also expected to miss the Eagles' trip to Fulham on Saturday.
This period could therefore allow the Senegalese player to take the time to recover physically, but also to digest the disappointment linked to his failed transfer.
Crystal Palace will now have to rely on the imminent return of Ismaïla Sarr, whose performances will be closely scrutinized after this transfer window development. For his part, the Saint-Louis native will have the opportunity to respond on the pitch and demonstrate that he remains fully focused on his adventure with the Eagles.
