From Magic System to the Senegalese national team: Pathé Mboup was already a star without anyone knowing it

Called up for the first time by Patrick Vieira to the Senegal national team, Stade Brestois striker Pathé Mboup is also known for having appeared in the music video for Magic System's biggest hit 12 years ago.

Great news for Pathé Mboup. For the first time, the 23-year-old winger has been called up by Patrick Vieira to play in Senegal's next two matches against Sudan in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. After taking a step forward in his second season at Brest, this is a crowning achievement for the player who, like Iliman Ndiaye, was trained at AS Dakar Sacré-Cœur.

After a difficult journey to sign with Standard Liège (Belgium) in 2022, then with Olympique Lyonnais who took him back, where he did not play a single minute in the first team, the Senegalese finally played his first professional matches in Pau, in Ligue 2, before joining Finistère in the summer of 2025. Originally from the small town of Mbao, near the Senegalese capital, he is nevertheless a well-known face.

The star of "Magic in the Air"

Before gradually making a name for himself in France and forging his own path, eventually becoming a regular starter in Ligue 1 (nine starts in nine matches), Pathé Mboup appeared in the music video for one of the biggest hits in French music. He even played the lead role. In "Magic in the Air," sung by the music group Magic System, he appears several times in a video that has now amassed over 564 million views on YouTube.

The very young Mboup, then 11 years old, played the role of the little boy wearing the yellow jersey of ACFC (Armor FC), a youth football academy launched in Diamniadio, Senegal, in direct partnership with Stade Brestois 29. Twelve years later, he found himself selected for the national team of his native country. His destiny seemed set.
