Échauffourées, actes de vandalisme, des blessés : Les Navétanes suspendues à Ngandiouf (Tivaouane)
The sub-prefect of Niakhène, Babacar Kébé, issued an order on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, suspending, until further notice, the activities of the popular national championship commonly known as “Navétanes.” This follows clashes and acts of vandalism that resulted in about ten injuries at the municipal stadium in Ngandiouf, a town in the Tivaouane department.
The administrative authority cites "risks of public disorder" to justify the suspension of the Navétanes tournament following ASC Mbakhisse's 2-1 victory over ASC Ndop Gadiaga. A resident of Ngandiouf, a member of the tournament's organizing committee, was reportedly assaulted while collecting balls on the field at the end of the match.
The local youths, upon learning of the attack after the victim was taken to the Ngandiouf health post and then transferred to the Mékhé health center, quickly retaliated, sparking clashes between the two sides. These altercations reportedly resulted in about ten injuries.
There was also significant material damage to the stadium, with chairs reportedly vandalized and a car damaged.
Faced with these incidents and the risk of further tensions, the people welcomed the decision of the sub-prefect of Niakhène to suspend the Navétanes.
