On the eve of his first official match in charge of Senegal, Patrick Vieira prefers to avoid the term "favorite." Facing Mozambique, the Lions' coach emphasizes the humility, concentration, and intensity needed for a successful start to these qualifiers.

“Being a favorite is a term that people from the outside generally use. Personally, it’s not a word that I particularly appreciate or like to use,” Patrick Vieira explained at a press conference.

For the French coach, Senegal's status as reigning African champions guarantees nothing on the field.

Each match presents its own challenges, and the one against Mozambique promises to be particularly hard-fought: "I think every match has its difficulties, and this one will be difficult for us. It's the first qualifying match. We expect to face a team that's difficult to play against," he warns.

Patrick Vieira expects his players to deliver a performance that matches their qualities, but with an approach based on humility and seriousness: "We must demonstrate our qualities with a lot of humility, seriousness and concentration to overcome this team," insists the coach.

The Lions will also need to show intensity from the opening minutes. Vieira believes this is one of the keys to allowing his team to fully express its potential: "We have talent, determination, and a lot of humility. It will be important for us to start the match with intensity," he emphasizes.

The coach knows, however, that words will quickly have to give way to actions: "If we manage to play at the level we know we can play at, we will have a good chance of achieving a good result. But all of this, we have to demonstrate on the field," he concludes.
