Équipe du Sénégal : tout sur les 30 matchs de Pape Thiaw
Pape Thiaw is no longer the coach of Senegal. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has relieved him of his duties following the Lions' elimination in the round of 32 of the World Cup. The 45-year-old coach spent 21 months at the helm of the national team, boasting an impressive record. According to statistics from Le Soleil, in 30 matches, he achieved 20 wins, 4 draws, and 5 losses, including three at the World Cup.
Before setting foot in the United States, where the local selection inflicted their second defeat (3-2) in preparation for the final phase, his team had only lost once (0-2), against Brazil in a friendly.
Under Pape Thiaw, the Lions scored 66 goals and conceded 21. They kept a clean sheet on eighteen occasions. The only times they failed to score were against Sudan (0-0), Saudi Arabia (0-0), and Brazil (0-2).
Another striking fact: Aliou Cissé's successor never lost against an African team; he beat, at least once, all 15 teams from the continent that he faced during his tenure.
Le Soleil pointed out that the 66 goals scored under Pape Thiaw bear the signature of sixteen Lions; Sadio Mané (12 times), Ismaïla Sarr (9), Nicolas Jackson (8), Pape Guèye (7) and Habib Diarra (6) occupying the top five places.
These statistics are impressive. They allowed Pape Thiaw, in particular, to lead Senegal to its second Africa Cup of Nations title and to participate in the World Cup for the fourth time. Unfortunately for him, these figures weren't enough to keep him on the Lions' bench.
