Équipe nationale : Mohamadou Kanté choisit finalement le Mali au détriment du Sénégal
Senegal has missed out on a young talent who could have strengthened its midfield in the years to come. Of Senegalese descent, Mohamadou Kanté has ultimately decided to represent Mali, who have just given him his first call-up to the national team.
The Eagles' coach, Anthony Da Silva, unveiled on Monday a list of 24 players for the double confrontation against Rwanda, scheduled for November 13 and 17, counting for the 3rd and 4th rounds of the AFCON-2027 qualifiers. Among the players selected is the West Ham midfielder, aged 21.

Born in the Paris region to a family of Senegalese origin, Kanté was eligible to play for both France and Senegal. He ultimately chose Mali, thus ending the hopes of Senegalese fans of ever seeing him represent the Lions of Teranga.
The young midfielder is enjoying a particularly interesting period with West Ham. Used in a more attacking role at club level, he boasts promising statistics with three goals and two assists in his last nine appearances. His physical presence (1.95m, 74kg), his impact in duels, and his aerial ability are all assets that could benefit the Malian national team.
This first call-up marks an important step in Mohamadou Kanté's career. For Senegal, currently undergoing a phase of rebuilding and renewing its squad, it's yet another promising young player who has slipped through the net.
