FC Metz : Carlo Molinari, président emblématique des Grenats, est mort à 93 ans
FC Metz is in mourning. Carlo Molinari, the club's long-serving president for nearly 34 years, passed away this Wednesday at the age of 93. A key figure in the history of Les Grenats (The Maroons), the Franco-Italian left a profound mark on Metz football.
At the helm of the club from 1967 to 2009, with a break between 1978 and 1983, he oversaw FC Metz's greatest moments, notably their victories in the Coupe de France (1984 and 1988) and the Coupe de la Ligue (1986 and 1996). Under his guidance, several generations of talent also emerged, including Patrick Battiston, Sylvain Kastendeuch, and Robert Pirès.
His name will also remain associated with the historic feat of 1984, when Metz humiliated FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou (4-1), as well as with the second place in the French championship obtained in 1998.
A former motocross racer turned businessman, Carlo Molinari was known for his outspokenness and unwavering passion for FC Metz. Even after stepping down as president in 2009, he never stopped following the news of his beloved club. With his passing, FC Metz loses one of the key figures in its history.
