Foot: Kane élu joueur de l'année 2026 en Allemagne devant Olise
Bayern Munich's English striker Harry Kane was voted "German Footballer of the Year 2026" on Sunday by German sports journalists, ahead of French international Michael Olise, while Vincent Kompany was named coach of the year.
The 695 members of the German sports journalists' association had to choose from among Bundesliga players regardless of their nationality, or German players playing abroad.
The first Englishman to win the award since 1960, Kane received 272 votes, compared to 203 for Olise, who finishes in 2nd place for the second year in a row, although his total for 2026 is higher than that of the 2025 winner, Florian Wirtz (191).
German champion, Cup winner, Champions League semi-finalist and third in the World Cup with England, Harry Kane, at 32 years old, had the best season of his career in 2025/26 with 73 goals to his credit.
His performances make him one of the main contenders for the Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded in London at the end of October.
The title of coach of the year 2026 in Germany went to Belgian Vincent Kompany, who arrived on the Bayern bench in the summer of 2024 and is the winner for the first time.
In the women's category, Bayern player and German national team captain Giulia Gwinn has been named German footballer of the year for the second consecutive time, after 2025.
