Gianni Infantino au cœur d'une nouvelle polémique, près de 4 millions de dollars d'impôts payés par la FIFA !
Did the head of world football receive preferential tax treatment? Gianni Infantino is once again in the spotlight following revelations by the New York Times and Le Monde. According to the two media outlets, FIFA covered all of its president's US taxes for the years 2024, 2025, and 2026. A particularly hefty bill, estimated at nearly $4 million! This benefit was granted while the Italian-Swiss executive was living in Miami in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
To understand this decision, we must go back to May 2024. During a meeting held in Bangkok, Bruno Chiomento, a member of a three-person committee tasked with setting the salaries of FIFA's top executives, reportedly proposed that the organization compensate Infantino for the increase in his US taxes. This proposal was quickly approved by the other members.
The elections are coming
But the story doesn't end there. According to documents consulted by Le Monde, this tax advantage was not included in the president's declared remuneration for 2024 and 2025. This situation reportedly raised questions internally, particularly regarding the federation's transparency obligations. For its part, FIFA maintains that its internal procedures and applicable tax laws were fully respected.
These revelations come at a particularly bad time for Gianni Infantino. Just months before the FIFA presidential election, scheduled for March 18, 2027 in Rabat, the 56-year-old is seeking a third term at the head of the organization, which he has presided over since 2016. It remains to be seen whether these revelations will have any impact.
