Lionel Messi wasted no time getting back into his old habits. Just four days after bidding farewell to the Argentine national team, the Inter Miami captain showcased his talent by scoring a brace against DC United (4-0) on Saturday night in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Back at club level after his last appearance for Argentina, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner once again demonstrated his clinical finishing. First, he finished off a move initiated by Luis Suárez, then showcased his class by beating his opponents before concluding his individual run with a winning strike.
This latest performance confirms the excellent form of the 39-year-old striker, who had already scored a goal and provided two assists in his last match with Argentina.
With 23 league goals, Messi leads the MLS scoring charts. He also has 13 assists, a tally that places him among the competition's top playmakers.
Despite a season marked by inconsistent results, Inter Miami, the defending champions, remain determined to retain their title. To achieve this, the Florida club can once again count on their number 10, whose influence remains crucial.
