According to his agent, Krépin Diatta's summer transfer window had raised questions even within the Senegalese Executive.
Not renewed by AS Monaco, Krépin Diatta was disappointed in the absence of offers despite a good individual performance at the 2026 World Cup before signing with Watford, in the English second division, until the end of the season.
“My own wife was putting pressure on me”
The situation of the Senegalese international (65 caps, 2 goals) was such that it captured the country's attention, as revealed by his agent Thierno Seydi in an interview with the SportElles channel. The businessman explained that he was under pressure, even from within his family circle.
“Coming out of the World Cup, we were convinced we were going to get offers. Because it wasn’t for lack of trying. We offered him everywhere. That’s why this whole situation caused me sleepless nights at one point. My own wife was putting pressure on me and saying, ‘What’s the status of my son’s situation?’ Because my wife is very fond of Krépin, who is very close to my children.”
“Even authorities were calling me”
The stress also came from outside. Indeed, according to his representative, authorities had come to inquire about the 27-year-old right-back.
"This was supposed to be the easiest case, but it turned out to be difficult. The pressure I was under was unprecedented. People were calling me from everywhere, even authorities at a certain level."
Kréppin Diatta may have abandoned substance for shadow
While his transfer may leave a sense of unfinished business from a sporting perspective, given initial expectations, the player hasn't come out ahead financially either. He reportedly turned down higher offers only to end up settling for less.
"Krépin Diatta had excessively high salary demands, to the point of refusing several clubs that had expressed interest in him. He now finds himself at Watford, with a salary significantly lower than what some clubs were offering him at the start of the transfer window."
While awaiting his baptism of fire with the Hornets, Kréppin Diatta could play his first minutes this Tuesday on the occasion of the 10th day of the Championship.
