2026 Youth Olympic Games: The Organizing Committee and the trade unions reach an agreement to avoid any strikes during the Games

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, an important consultation meeting was held between Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, president of the Organizing Committee for the Youth Olympic Games (COJOJ) Dakar 2026, and an inter-union delegation led by Mody Guiro, secretary general of the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal (CNTS).

Following their discussions, the various signatory parties openly welcomed "the spirit of the discussions and the perspectives that emerged".

A patriotic commitment to the success of the Olympic Games

During the discussions, Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye emphasized the "historic decision of the IOC to entrust the Republic of Senegal, for the first time on African soil, with the organization of the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games." He reaffirmed the organizing committee's commitment to making these YOG "a model of sustainability and social performance," while guaranteeing respect for fundamental rights.

Welcoming this inclusive approach, the trade union federations present reiterated their commitment "to defending the moral and material interests of workers," while emphasizing their "patriotic commitment to any national cause."

Sensitive to the strategic importance of this global event for the country, the unions have made a crucial commitment: "Aware of the mutual responsibilities within the framework of this exceptional event, the union federations are urging their respective members to better consider the Youth Olympic Games window in the action plan that will result from the 72-hour general strike, so as to avoid any disruption throughout the duration of the Games."

By signing this joint agreement, the Senegalese trade union front guarantees the stability and smooth running of activities throughout the Olympic period in Dakar.
